Theodor Kuchel

Theodor Kuchel (born June 2, 1819 in Altona , † September 26, 1885 ibid) was a German landscape and portrait painter , father of Max Kuchel and uncle of Friedrich Kallmorgen .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a painter, which he began in 1835, he learned to draw portraits in Braunschweig. He then settled in Altona as a portrait painter and drawing teacher .

Kuchel went on study trips to Tyrol and Switzerland . In addition to portraits, he painted and drew landscapes, mostly in Holstein Switzerland . Johann Baptist Obernetter published a series of graphics with Theodor Kuchel's views of Schleswig-Holstein in Altona in 1871/1872.

He was active as a drawing teacher, among his students were the princesses of Schleswig-Holstein, the Empress Auguste Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg and her sisters.

He was also the first drawing teacher to his son Max and his nephew Friedrich Kallmorgen.

The Kuchelweg in Hamburg-Othmarschen was named after him and his son Max in 1951 .
