Theodor Peters (engineer)

Theodor Peters (born November 15, 1841 in Menden ; † September 2, 1908 in Berlin ) was a German engineer and chairman and director of the Association of German Engineers (VDI).

Life

After graduating from high school, Theodor Peters began to study mechanical engineering at the Royal Commercial Institute in Berlin, which he broke off after four semesters for financial reasons. He then worked in engineering offices and machine factories in Siegen . There he founded the district association of the VDI, which he chaired between 1879 and 1881. From 1881 Peters was active in the general association of the VDI in Berlin, first as general secretary, between 1891 and 1908 as director. Peters was its chairman as early as 1879. From 1882 he was the editor in charge of the journal of the Association of German Engineers . His request to have the weekly of the Association of German Engineers appearing since 1877 in the journal of the Association of German Engineers was granted at the 24th general meeting of the VDI in 1883.

Peters was also politically active. In the Reichstag election in 1881 he ran for the National Liberal Party (NLP) in the Reichstag constituency Wiesbaden 5 , but could not prevail against the mandate holder Georg Thilenius (who had left the NLP in 1880 and joined the Liberal Association ).

Theodor Peters was a younger brother of Richard Peters , one of the founding members of the VDI.
