Live and act

Theodor Petri was born in Detmold on December 11, 1846 or 1848 as the son of the secret councilor Moritz Leopold Petri . He attended the Leopoldinum Gymnasium and then embarked on a military career. As an officer in the 55th Infantry Regiment , he took part in the French campaign in 1870 . He was awarded the 1st Class Cross of Honor for this. Theodor Petri resigned from the military as prime lieutenant and moved to the municipal service. From 1879 to 1881 he was the first treasurer of the city of Detmold and from 1881 mayor. In the election in 1888 he was missing a vote and he lost the post to the government trainee Paul Steinberg . Until 1892 he worked as administrator of the stately brickworks in Hiddesen , then he was re-elected mayor. Theodor Petri died in office on January 13, 1903.

He was married to Gesine Berta Annie Krüer (born September 9, 1856 in Hamburg; † June 15, 1945 in Detmold). Her son, Hermann Konrad Petri (1885–1963), was a senior councilor and later deputy district administrator of Detmold.

A major achievement of Theodor Petris was the water supply in Detmold. On December 11, 1899, the waterworks at the Berlebeck springs was inaugurated. Until then, the city's water supply was exclusively from wells.
