Theodora III. ( Middle Greek Θεοδώρα ; * around 985; † August 31, 1056 in Byzantium ) was Empress of Byzantium .
Life
Theodora was the daughter of Emperor Constantine VIII of Byzantium and the younger sister of Empress Zoë . In 1032 she was compelled by this to retire to the monastery. On April 21, 1042 she was raised to co-empress in the course of a popular movement. But already on June 11th her emperor was over, when her sister Zoë married in third marriage to Emperor Constantine IX. married by Byzantium.
