Theodore Groves

Theodore Francis Groves, Jr. (* 1941 ) is an American economist from the University of California, San Diego . He is best known for his work on game theory .

Groves earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1964 and a Ph. D. in economics from Roy Radner at the University of California, Berkeley , in 1970 . After academic positions at the University of Wisconsin – Madison , the Kellogg School of Management and Stanford University , he has been Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego since 1979, where he was Chairman of the Economics Faculty from 1982 to 1985 . In 2011 he retired , but continues to work scientifically.

He deals with environmental economics and resource allocation , microeconomics , mechanism design theory, and public finance .

Groves is married to the biochemist Katja Lindenberg . He has two children of his own and two stepchildren.
