Roy Radner
Roy Radner (born June 29, 1927 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American business mathematician and university professor. He is the namesake of the Radner equilibrium that he formulated .
Career, research and teaching
Radner studied at the University of Chicago . Before serving in the United States Army between 1945 and 1948 , he had earned his first degree there with a Bachelor of Philosophy . In 1950 he graduated from the university as a Bachelor of Science and the following year as a Master of Science in mathematics . Parallel to his Ph.D. He then worked as a research assistant or research associate , and from 1954 he was employed at the university as an assistant professor . In 1955 he moved to Yale University in the same position , meanwhile he graduated in 1956 with a Ph.D. in math from the University of Chicago.
In 1957 Radner went to the University of California, Berkeley as an associate professor . There he was appointed full professor in 1961 and five years later took over the management of the faculty . In 1977 he followed a call from Harvard University , where he temporarily taught at the Kennedy School of Government . In 1979 he moved to Bell Laboratories , for which he worked until 1995. From 1983 he was employed at the same time as an economics professor at New York University . In 1995 he moved to the Stern School of Business at the university .
Radner developed an extension of the Arrow-Debreu equilibrium model , which developed into the basis for the study of incomplete markets in economics.
Radner has been a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 1962 , of which he was President in 1972/73. Other memberships and awards include the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1970), the National Academy of Sciences (1975), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Economic Association .
