Theodore Thierry

Theodore Thierry (* 1804 in Baden , † 1870 in Philadelphia ) was a German-American architect of classicism and probably a nephew of Wilhelm and Ferdinand Thierry .

Thierry received his training as an architect at Friedrich Weinbrenner's Building School . In 1833 at the latest , he emigrated to Philadelphia, where he took up a position as managing director in the office of John Haviland . Thierry later taught architecture and perspective drawing in Philadelphia and ran his own construction office until his death in 1870.

“Thierry kept in touch with his German relatives, especially Carl Ludwig Thierry (1796–1858), the drawing teacher at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic and successor to Weinbrenner's own building school. The connection between the two must have been particularly intense: When Thierry from Karlsruhe died, he bequeathed his extensive architectural estate to Theodore, who was probably his nephew. This younger family member who emigrated to America had reported to his relatives about construction matters in Philadelphia and it can be assumed that the Karlsruhe students had also been informed about his activities. When Gustav Runge and Edward Collins were considering emigrating, these Karlsruhe relations with Philadelphia may have played a role. "
