Wilhelm Thierry

Wilhelm Adam Thierry (born September 26, 1761 in Bruchsal , † July 26, 1823 in Rudolstadt ) was a German landscape painter, etcher and architect of classicism and brother of Ferdinand Thierry .

After studying painting with Ferdinand Kobell in Mannheim , Thierry worked from 1794 to 1810, first as a landgrave drawing master in Homburg and then as a court painter in Sachsen-Meiningen . After studying architecture with Friedrich Weinbrenner in Karlsruhe from 1810 to 1812 , he was appointed Princely Building Director in Rudolstadt, where he built the east wing of Heidecksburg Palace .

His collection of drawings by Weinbrenner and his students came to Philadelphia in 1859 , where his nephew Theodore Thierry († 1870) had been active since 1833.
