Theodore "Ted" Ts'o (* 23 January 1968 in Palo Alto , California ) is a programmer and one of the most prominent Linux kernel - developers , particularly in the area of file systems .

Ts'o finished his computer science degree at MIT in 1990 , then worked at the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) Institute, which is also located at MIT , until 1999. There he led the Kerberos V5 project team. Another station was VA Linux , now GeekNet, Inc. , where he stayed for two years.

From December 2001 to 2007, Theodore Ts'o was employed by IBM . He was employed there to increase the performance and scalability of the Linux kernel. Since December 2007, Ts'o has acted as Chief Platform Strategist for the Linux Foundation . Since December 18, 2008, he was Chief Technology Officer there , replacing Markus Rex , who returned to Novell. It was planned that he would return to IBM in December 2009.

In January 2010 he switched to Google , in whose role he also works as a kernel developer.

Ts'o is the programmer responsible for the user tools e2fsprogs - often called e2fs programs - for the ext file systems ext2 , ext3 and ext4 . As a Debian developer, he is mainly responsible for packages in the area of ​​file systems.

Until June 2008 he was Treasurer of USENIX . He chairs the annual Linux Kernel Developers Summit s ( Linux Kernel Developers Summit ).

Theodore Ts'o received the FSF Award 2006 given by the Free Software Foundation .
