Theodosius III.
Theodosius III. the Armenian ( Middle Greek Θεοδόσιος Γ ′ ) was a tax collector on the subject of Opsikion , lived or worked in Adramyttion and was a Byzantine emperor from 715 to 717 .
Life
Theodosios was probably proclaimed emperor against Anastasios II by the army in May 715 - perhaps even against his will - but was only able to assert himself as sole ruler in November 715. As emperor, he may also take on the name Constantine . When the Arabs besieged Constantinople in 717 , there was another change of rule, as the army did not consider him capable enough. The general Konon, who came from Syria, settled as Leo III. proclaim the new emperor; Theodosios abdicated in March 717 together with his son and became a clergyman.
