Theoctist Blazewicz

Theoctist Blazewicz , pseudonym Teoctist Şoimul (born February 23, 1807 in Tişăuţi, Bukowina ; † July 9, 1879 in Chernivtsi ), was an Orthodox metropolitan , theologian, grammarian and Romanist .

life and work

Theoctist Blazewicz (Romanian: Teoctist Blajevici ) studied theology in Chernivtsi and was spiritual there from 1837, from 1857 to 1863 rector of the Greek-Oriental Bucovina diocesan seminary. From 1863 to 1874 he was abbot of Dragomirna Monastery . Then he went back to Chernivtsi as vicar general and was metropolitan of Bukovina from 1877 until his death .

Blazewicz wrote the first Romanian grammar published in Bukovina .
