The Theological Forum Christianity - Islam is a scientific network and discussion forum in the field of Christian-Islamic studies, which is located at the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart . The target group of the forum are theologians , social and cultural scientists (advanced students with a corresponding field of study, doctoral candidates, post-doctoral candidates, professors) who deal with the relationship between Islam and Christianity in research and / or in practical fields of work . According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior , it is “one of the most important forums for Christian-Islamic dialogue in Germany”.

General information

Every year at the Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in the Stuttgart-Hohenheim conference center, a specialist conference of Christian and Muslim scholars takes place with the aim of deepening the dialogue between Christian and Islamic theology in the German-speaking and pan-European context. The aim of the forum is to strengthen the factual discourse and networking among each other.

The circle of invited speakers and participants is made up mainly of Christian theologians of the Roman Catholic , Protestant , Anglican and (Greek) Orthodox denomination, Muslim theologians of Shia and Sunni embossing, Islamic scholars , theologians , but also from other (mostly humanities) disciplines together . Half of the speakers and more than 40% of the approximately 100 participants are of Muslim faith. The speakers and participants usually come from around a dozen European countries.

history

After a phase of exploration (with conferences in 2003 and 2004 with the aim of defining an internal Christian position in the dialogue with Islam), a series of joint conferences between Christians and Muslims began in 2005. The scientific meeting forums, which have been held regularly in early March since then, have been financially supported by the Federal Ministry of the Interior since 2003. In 2009, the Federal Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble , opened the forum with an introductory speech on the dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

The preparation and implementation of the events (in an extensive discussion process) is the responsibility of a team of Christian and Muslim scholars.

Since the summer of 2007, the Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart - also with the support of the Federal Ministry of the Interior - has also been organizing an annual Christian-Islamic study week, through which young scientists from Christian-Islamic research fields receive further training and network with one another (via the Christianity Islam Research Colloquium ). The continuous cooperation also results in jointly supported requirements, such as B. the establishment of chairs for the training of imams at state universities in Germany.
