Theophil Spoerri (theologian)

Theophil Spoerri (birth name and current pseudonym : Ben-Jizchak Feinstein ; * 1939 in Iași ) is a Swiss teacher , reformed pastor and pastor ; Brother of Daniel and Miriam Spoerri .

Life

Spoerri is the son of a Romanian Hasidic Jew and a Swiss woman with a pietistic background. After his father was murdered in the Iasi pogrom in 1941, his wife returned to Switzerland with their six children.

Spoerri became a primary school teacher and then studied theology at the Church Theological School in Basel . Long-standing, he worked as a pastor in the Evangelical Reformed congregation Oekolampad and as a chaplain at the University Hospital Basel .

He has been interpreting Yiddish songs under the name Ben-Jizchak Feinstein since around 1980 . He summed up his experiences as a parish priest and pastor in 2004 in his book Spitalseelsorge als Anachronismus . In 2010 he published the autobiographical fiction and family saga Perlen für Messiah . Spoerri is Vice President of the Basel social culture project 3 / Klang and lives in Basel.
