Theory In Practice is a Swedish progressive - death metal band whose music is mainly characterized by frequent and rapid changes of rhythm and partly plated complexity.

Band history

Theory in Practice were founded in 1995 by Peter Lake (guitar), Matthias Engstrand (bass, keyboards) and Henrik Ohlsson (drums) in Sandviken . Shortly thereafter, Johan Ekman joined as a singer. In May 1996 the first demo Submissive was recorded in Peter Tägtgren's Abyss Studio. The demo sold well in the underground and secured the young formation a record deal with the Singapore label Pulverized Records . In 1997 the debut album Third Eye Function was released , which was recorded in the Stockholm Sunlight Studios. Johan Ekman left the group shortly afterwards because he wanted to study music.

Henrik Ohlsson took over the vocals for the 1997 album The Armageddon Theories . After that, Theory moved in Practice to the Swedish label Listenable Records , which reissued the second album. In 2001 the last album Colonizing the Sun was released , which was recorded for the first time in their own studio. The band has been on a long break since this release.

Music genre

Theory in Practice are very much oriented towards Progressive Metal for a Melodic Death Metal band . The music consists of many rhythm and tempo changes, long, extended solos and intricate rhythms. Because of this characteristic, it is often compared with progressive power metal bands like Watchtower or Spastic Ink , but also with technical death metal bands like Nocturnus , Cynic and Atheist . On the last album there were also classical influences.
