They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard

They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard (German: They bring the Hobbits to Isengard ) is a video clip released in 2005 by the artist Erwin Beekveld, which became an internet phenomenon and especially among fans of the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings enjoys cult status. The different versions of the video - including a ten-hour version - were viewed over 46 million times. The video first appeared as a Flash animation on the Albinoblacksheep.com website and was then mainly distributed via YouTube .

The video consists of a cut together of short fragments from the films The Lord of the Rings: The Companions and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers , which are arranged in loops . A techno version of Howard Shore's film music is used as background music . Actor Orlando Bloom can be seen in the role of the elf Legolas , who constantly and rhythmically repeats the eponymous sentence "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard". He is interrupted on the one hand by Gollum (spoken by Andy Serkis ), who repeatedly with the sentences “What did you say?” (German: “What did you say?”) And “Stupid fat Hobbit” (German: “Dummer fat Hobbit “) Can be heard, as well as from Marton Csokas in the role of Celeborn , who repeatedly inquires about Gandalf's whereabouts . Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins , Dominic Monaghan as Meriadoc Brandybock , Billy Boyd as Peregrin Tuk and Sean Astin as Samweis Gamgee can also be seen in their roles as Hobbits ; likewise Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel .

Musicologist Michael L. Klein (Professor and Chair at Temple University ) lists They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard in his book Music and the Crises of the Modern Subject as an example of a meme and mash-up as the predominant form of creativity in postmodernism on.

In June 2013, director Peter Jackson released Orlando Bloom's departure from the set for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, a video in which Bloom disguised as Legolas sings to They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard . This video found media coverage around the world and was viewed over 11 million times by December 2015.
