Thierry Lalo

Thierry Lalo (born February 3, 1963 - † November 16, 2018 ) was a French jazz musician ( piano , arrangement , composition ).

Live and act

Lalo attended the École Monceau (1966–1973), the Collège Le Parc (1974–1978), the Lycée Technique Annexe de Voillaume Aulnay (1978–1981) and the Institut d'administration des entreprises de Paris (1995–1996). In addition, he had a classical music education before moving to jazz through music a. a. came from Bill Evans , Miles Davis , Horace Silver , Duke Ellington and Count Basie . Following the example of the Double-Six around Mimi Perrin , he founded the jazz vocal ensemble Voice Messengers in 1994, of which he was musical director. In 1997 a first album was created.

Lalo also wrote five jazz operas and also wrote a book on John Lewis . For his jazz opera Randam , Lalo was the first jazz musician to receive the Prix ​​Nouveau Talent Musique from the French authors' society Société des auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques (SACD) in 2002 . In 2011 he won the Prix ​​Maurice Yvain of the SACD for his achievements as a composer and arranger. With the Voice Messengers he was awarded the Prix ​​du Jazz Vocal of the Académie du Jazz in 2008 .
