Thierry Terret
Thierry Terret (born January 1, 1963 ) is a French sports historian who was appointed Commissioner of the French Government for the 2024 Summer Olympics . Previously, he was Rector and Chancellor of the Réunion Academy and from 2016 in the same role at the Rennes Academy .
Life
After studying sport at the University of Lyon 1 (exam 1987), the institute director Pierre Arnaud kept him at the institute as a swimming instructor. Terret also worked his way into the history of sports and did his doctorate on the history of swimming in 1992 , which gave him a permanent position as Maitre de Conférance and in 1997 as a professor. In 1998 he won the Junior Scholar Award from the European Committee for Sports History . He consistently pursued the approach of processing the history of the individual sports or having it processed. In 2002 he was visiting professor at the University of British Columbia , and in 2003 he succeeded Arnaud as director of the institute in Lyon. In 2009 he was visiting professor at the University of Queensland . From 2008 to 2012 he was the chairman of the French Sport Historians and Vice-President of the International Sport Historians. He is a Fellow of the European Committee for Sports History . As a member of the French Socialists , he was appointed Rector and Chancellor of the Académie de La Réunion in 2013, and in 2016 to the same post (also as Deputy Prefect ) at the Académie in Rennes . In 2018 he became the representative ( delegate ) of the French government for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris .
