Thilo Cornelissen

Thilo Cornelissen (* 1904 ; † 1965 ) was a German music teacher and composer whose work includes textbooks, compositions and arrangements of German folk songs .

Live and act

In 1946, Cornelissen worked as a music teacher at what is now the Hermann-Ehlers-Gymnasium in the Berlin district of Steglitz . In the same year, one year after the end of the Second World War , he founded the Steglitz Folk Music School. With other teachers from the grammar school, he created the conditions for instrumental and singing lessons and founded the first music ensembles such as the chamber choir of the music school. The Steglitzer Schools Christmas song, which is still popular today , also goes back to Cornelissen.

In 1951 he wrote a small songbook with the title: Der Kreis, German folk songs, chants and canons with complete texts - melody edition , which was published by the music publisher Robert Lienau, Berlin-Lichterfelde, at that time still with "Approval of the message control of the American military government". In the foreword he wrote: "May all these melodies and songs, with their arrangements, contribute to awakening the joy of making music and creating oneself within the community and in domestic circles".

In 1959 he published Der Freischütz by CM v. Weber / portrayed by Thilo Cornelissen, Berlin-Lichterfelde , in the series Die Oper: Series of publications on music lessons in middle and high school .

In 1963 he published a second book in this series on The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

His composition Lichterfelder Zupfmusik is still part of the program of international music ensembles.
