Thimotheus Merzahn of Klingstädt

Thimotheus Merzahn von Klingstädt (* 1710 in Barth ; † 1786 ) was a German lawyer and economist in the Russian government.

Thimotheus Merzahn was a son of the Barther mayor Merzahn. After completing his academic studies, he came to Livonia as a private tutor . He then went to Saint Petersburg and became an auditor in Arkhangelsk . When Prussia was occupied by the Russians in the Seven Years' War , Merzahn was employed there in the chamber system. Around 1764 he became Vice President of the Judicial College for Liv, Estonian and Finnish legal matters in Petersburg with the title of Budget Councilor. In 1764 he was included in the Livonian register with the name "von Klingstädt" , and a year later in the Estonian nobility register. In 1767 von Klingstädt was a deputy of the judiciary at the law commission and was secretary to Count Panin . From 1771 to 1773 von Klingstädt went on a journey through Europe, where he met Benjamin Franklin in London, among others . In 1775 he was appointed Real Budget Councilor. Von Klingstädt was one of the first members of the Free Economic Society of St. Petersburg .
