This Thing of Ours is an American gangster film from 2003 with Danny Provenzano and Frank Vincent in the leading roles and Edward Lynch, Vincent Pastore and James Caan in the supporting roles. The title ("this our thing") is an allusion to the expression Cosa Nostra , which stands for the Mafia .

action

With the help of the internet, a criminal computer genius and old Mafia traditions, a young crew of young Italian-American gangsters, led by Nicholas "Nicky" Santini, are trying to carry out the greatest heist in crime history. A satellite is said to be manipulated in such a way that bank transactions are transferred to a Cuban account belonging to the family. Before that, Nicky has to convince his uncle Danny Santini, a respected Capo regime of the Genovesso family in New Jersey . In addition, Santini must advance money in the amount of 50,000,000 million dollars. Danny agrees and Nicky murders together with the enforcer Johnny "Irish" Kelly to set the plan in motion. In Florida they have the necessary computer chip handed over to them and then murder the bearer. You are being followed and arrested by the FBI . However, one of the FBI agents had placed cocaine in Santini's house, which was recorded on video. Santini's lawyer effortlessly gets the accused out of custody. Immediately after imprisonment, the Santini crew began to transfer the money. In total, the profit is over a billion. The computer expert is kidnapped and tortured by competing mafiosi in order to carry out further transactions for their own benefit. Nicky and his crew locate him with a tracking device and free him from his predicament. Then they ask the boss Jimmy "The Con" to be allowed to murder the kidnapper. However, since he is a full member, the boss rejects this with reference to the traditional code of conduct of the Mafia. Uncle Danny gives Nicky his OK. Nicky carries out the matter without incurring any consequences. Afterward, Uncle Danny asks Nicky to murder his two friends who helped him in order to sever the connection. Nicky finds this difficult, but still has these murders carried out. A month later, Nicky meets his uncle Danny in his luxurious castle in Sardinia and tells him that he wants to get out. Danny thinks it's very daring and warns Nicky of the consequences. The film ends with an uncertain outcome.

criticism

Danny Behr wrote in the New York Times that the film does not come close to the big films and series like The Godfather or The Sopranos . The film reminds more of James Bond than of the godfather. The film turned out well if one could watch the veterans of Mafia films in their dialogues.
