Thomas Adams (composer, 1785)

Thomas Adams (born September 5, 1785 in London , † September 15, 1858 ibid) was an English organist and composer.

Life

Thomas Adams studied with Thomas Busby and was friends with Samuel Wesley , who also dedicated two volunteers to him. He was organist in several churches in London. From 1802 he was at the Carlisle Chapel in Lambeth, from 1814 at St Pauls in Deptford and from 1824 he was organist at St George in Camberwell . His last post until his death was at St Dunstan-in-the-West . His improvisational skills were appreciated. For several years he supervised the public performances of the Apollonicons .

He is referred to as the last Georgian composer and was a respected composer in London during his lifetime.

    • Variations on "A Rose Tree full in bearing". "A Rose Tree full in bearing" is an old Irish folk tune.
    • Variations on " Quant è Più Bella". The theme "Quant è Più Bella" comes from an opera by Paisiello on which Ludwig van Beethoven also composed variations.

Many of his works are suitable for performance with both the organ and the piano.

Geoffrey Atkinson edited several of the composer's works at Fagus Music. Many of his works can be found in collective editions with organ music.
