Thomas Apolte

Thomas Apolte (born April 20, 1960 in Krefeld ) is a German economist .

Scientific career

From 1982 to 1985 he completed a degree in economics with a focus on economics and economic policy at the Gerhardt Mercator University in Duisburg . From 1987 he was, interrupted by a one-year position as a visiting assistant professor at Brigham Young University in Provo in the USA (1994-1995), also employed at this university. He obtained his habilitation in 1998 in economics. From 2000 to 2010 he was Professor of Economic Policy at the Institute for Economic Education at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . Since 2002 he has Liaison Officer of the Foundation of German Business .

Apolte has headed the Chair of Economic Policy Analysis since 2010 . This belongs to the Center for Interdisciplinary Economic Research at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster. On the one hand, the employees dealt thematically with the explanation of political and economic decision-making processes. On the other hand, the results of these processes are analyzed. For this purpose, the methodology of the new political economy , the public choice theory and the more recent political economy literature are used. Projects are carried out on various subject areas. Public choice theory examines the political systems and economic prosperity in transition countries as well as the economic theory of political instability. In addition, the theory and empiricism of discrimination in labor markets and competition in the school system are dealt with.
