Thomas Baumann (born July 15, 1961 in Hof ) is a German journalist . He was from 1 July 2006 to July 2016 ARD - chief editor and coordinator of politics, society and culture.

Life

Baumann studied political science, communication science and psycholinguistics in Munich . He finished his studies with a master's degree . Among other things, he worked as a sports reporter for Münchner tz and was a freelancer for Bayerischer Rundfunk . After completing his master's degree, he became a reporter, planning editor and head of the service for the broadcasts Bayernstudio , Rundschau and Rundschau-Magazin of Bavarian TV . In 1991 he became the head of the newsroom in MDR television and between 1994 and 1998 worked as an ARD correspondent for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Baumann was also the head of the ARD studio in Prague . In 1999 Baumann became deputy editor-in-chief of the capital studio of ARD in Berlin and in 2006 ARD editor-in-chief.

In 2016 he became deputy editor-in-chief in the capital city studio again. From 2016 to 2018 he again moderated the report from Berlin , which he had already moderated from 2002–2006.
