Thomas Boylston Adams (lawyer)

Thomas Boylston Adams (born September 15, 1772 in Quincy , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † March 12, 1832 ibid) was an American lawyer and a member of the influential Adams family .

Thomas Boylston Adams was the third and youngest son of John Adams , second President of the United States from 1797 to 1801 , and the younger brother of John Quincy Adams , sixth President of the United States from 1825 to 1829. Thomas Boylston Adams graduated from Harvard University in 1790 . He then received legal training from Jared Ingersoll in Philadelphia . He served his brother John Quincy Adams as secretary, while he was ambassador to the Netherlands , Portugal and Prussia between 1794 and 1798 . Thomas Boylston Adams was a member of the Massachusetts General Court in 1805/06 , and in 1811 he became a senior judge on the Circuit Court of Common Pleas for the Southern Circuit of Massachusetts .

In 1810 Thomas Boylston Adams was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Adams was married to Ann Harrod (1774-1845) since 1805. The couple had eight children. Their common grave is in Mount Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy.
