Thomas Broderick

Thomas Broderick (born December 23, 1882 in Kilflynn , Ireland ; † October 13, 1933 ) was an Irish clergyman and Vicar Apostolic of western Nigeria, which later became the Archdiocese of Benin City .

Life

On July 15, 1906, Broderick was ordained a priest of the Society of Africa Missions . For the next two years he served as a missionary on the Gold Coast . From 1908 to 1910 he taught as a professor at Apostolic College Ballinafad in County Mayo , Ireland. He also ran the college as principal . He then held the same position until 1916 at the College of the Society in Blackrock, County Cork . In 1917 he became Apostolic Prefect of Western Nigeria.

On August 24, 1918, Pope Benedict XV appointed him as Vicar Apostolic of Western Nigeria and Titular Bishop of Petnelissus . Bishop Charles O'Sullivan , Bishop of Kerry , ordained him on December 8, 1918, with the assistance of Daniel Cohalan , Bishop of Cork , and Denis Hallinan , Bishop of Limerick .
