Thomas Bromley

Thomas Bromley (born February 1, 1629 in Worcester , † April 13, 1691 ) was an English mystic .

Life

Thomas Bromley was born in Worcester. He studied at the University of Oxford theology . He was then a fellow at All Souls College . However, he did not recognize the liturgy of the state church, which is why he was expelled from the university in 1660. In the following years he dealt with enthusiastic mysticism and apocalyptic .

Bromley rejected ecclesiastical communities and found marriage to be contrary to divine will. He teamed up with John Pordage , in 1670 they founded the Philadelphian Society with Jane Leade . Bromley was considered a diviner and reportedly received revelations and visions . He died on April 13, 1691 at the age of 62.
