Thomas Bruderer

Thomas Bruderer (born February 26, 1982 ) is a Swiss software engineer and was President of the Pirate Party Switzerland (PPS) from April 1, 2012 to February 16, 2013 .

education and profession

Bruderer grew up in Canton Thurgau and made his Matura at the Kantonsschule Romanshorn . He studied computer science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) and was involved in the student body and in university politics during his studies. In 2008 he received his master's degree in theoretical computer science with a minor in astrophysics . Bruderer now made a six-month trip through Eastern Europe and Asia. In 2009 he worked as a software engineer for Digitec . From 2010 he worked as a software engineer for Qnective . In 2012 he switched to the cloud storage service Wuala . Since 2015 he has been working as a software developer at Messerli Informatik AG.

Political career

The first contact with politics took place during his studies, when Bruderer became involved in the student body and in university politics. In 2009 he was a founding member of the Pirate Party Switzerland. From 2010 he was a member of the party's executive committee. At the beginning of April 2012, he replaced Denis Simonet as party president.

Bruderer ran for his party in the cantonal election in Zurich in 2011 and was the top candidate in the 11 + 12 districts. Also in 2011 he ran for a seat on the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections . Bruderer took second place on his party's canton list in the canton of Zurich .

On September 28, 2013, Thomas Bruderer announced his resignation from the Pirate Party at the party meeting.

  • An internet forum of the Swiss Pirate Party published a contribution to the discussion by Thomas Bruderer. Bruderer sees in God a "disgusting, megalomaniac, sadomasochistic, capricious-malicious tyrant" and thus refers to Richard Dawkins . In reference to Sigmund Freud, Bruderer describes religion as a mass psychosis , which should actually be treated: "Yes, I see religion as a mental illness."
