Denis Simonet (2011)

Denis Simonet (born May 21, 1985 in Biel ) was the first president of the Pirate Party Switzerland (PPS) from 2009 to 2012 and its press spokesman until 2016. From 2012 to 2014 he was on the board of Pirate Parties International .

Functions with the pirates

Simonet was elected first president at the founding meeting of the Pirate Party Switzerland in Zurich and was confirmed for a further period on December 5, 2009 in Bern and February 19, 2011 in Winterthur. At the meeting of March 4 and 5, 2012 in Visperterminen, he did not stand for re-election. Until 2016 he was press spokesman for the Swiss Pirate Party. In 2012 and 2013 he was elected to the board of directors of Pirate Parties International , where he was responsible for press work and representation in the World Intellectual Property Organization and World Trade Organization .

From December 13 to 24, 2010, Simonet blogged for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung about “digital politics” and was interviewed as an expert on surveillance for the IT magazine “Netzwoche”. In his own blog, as President of the Swiss Pirates, he also wrote regularly about digital politics - individual contributions have already been taken from the student portal students.ch and the Tages-Anzeiger . He was also on the committee of the transparency initiative for the disclosure of politicians' income and a member of the committee against the reintroduction of fixed book prices. The referendum came about and the Swiss people rejected the reintroduction of fixed book prices in the national vote .

Due to his proximity to music, Simonet advocates liberal copyright law, which enables the free exchange of culture. The rapper Gimma attacked him in an open letter, to which Simonet responded with a blog post entitled "The Internet is not a Nazi regime". Simonet also spoke about the copyright debate in an interview in the Tages-Anzeiger.

biography

Simonet lives in Ipsach , studied computer science at the ETH Zurich and continued his studies at the Bern University of Applied Sciences - in February 2014 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He is C position in the cadre of the civil defense organization and works as a software developer. He is also a founding member of the Swiss Privacy Foundation and an actuary on the board of the Freethinkers Section Bern. One of his hobbies is the piano. In cooperation with the film music maker MG-Rizzello, two songs were created from his two compositions, which he published on SoundCloud . He also composed the jingle for the independent podcast parrot.fm . Simonet is the editor of the news magazine Bottle Post of the Pirate Party Germany .

Simonet was the contact person for wikileaks.ch, a link to the whistle blowing platform WikiLeaks , which was set up after a board resolution on June 8, 2010. Because of this, and because he met Julian Assange for dinner in Geneva, the Swiss Pirate Party was in the international spotlight in December 2010.

At the founding assembly of Pirate Parties International , he represented the Pirate Party Switzerland as a delegate. In December 2013 he attended as a representative of Pirate Parties International, the ninth Ministerial Conference of the WTO in Bali , Indonesia .
