Thomas Buchecker Cooper

Thomas Buchecker Cooper (born December 29, 1823 in Coopersburg , Lehigh County , Pennsylvania , †  April 4, 1862 there ) was an American politician . In 1861 and 1862 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Cooper attended public schools in his home country and then Pennsylvania College in Gettysburg . After a subsequent medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his license as a doctor in 1843, he began to work in Coopersburg in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1860 , Cooper was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Henry Clay Longnecker on March 4, 1861 . He was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his death on April 4, 1862. This time was marked by the events of the civil war .
