Thomas Clemens (lawyer)

Thomas Clemens (born July 2, 1948 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer.

Career

Clemens, who has been married since 1974, is the father of two daughters. He received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg , where he was research assistant to Karl August Bettermann from 1976 to 1979 . Subsequently, he held a judge's position at the administrative court in Hamburg until 1982. From 1982 until 1987 he worked as a research assistant in the Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenfördes department at the Federal Constitutional Court . From 1988 to 1991 he worked as a judge at the Stuttgart Administrative Court . This was followed by his transfer to the Stuttgart Regional Social Court . In 1997 he was finally elected as judge at the Federal Social Court . His field of activity was in the Senate for statutory health insurance (dental) law. In 2008 he became Deputy Senate Chairman. During his time at the BSG, he had been a member of the library commission since 2000, and from 2005 he held the position of deputy library officer. In 2006 membership in the Presidential Council was added.

In addition, Clemens is co-editor of a commentary on the Basic Law and other commentary literature. He also published in the context of book chapters and magazine articles. The main focus is on statutory health insurance physician law .

Clemens held teaching positions at the universities in Hamburg, Greifswald and Potsdam. First he taught constitutional law , later social security law . In 2004 he took over a teaching position in Tübingen and was appointed honorary professor there in 2009.
