Thomas Doyle (clergyman)

Thomas P. Doyle (born August 3, 1944 in Sheboygan , Wisconsin ) is an American Dominican priest and canon lawyer , who became known for his commitment to the victims of sexual abuse by Catholic priests .

Life

Doyle was baptized as Patrick Michael Doyle and took the religious name of Thomas when he began his novitiate in August 1964 . In 1965 he made the simple and in August 1968 the perpetual vow . In 1970 he was ordained a priest.

Doyle studied philosophy and theology at the Aquinas Institute of Philosophy, River Forest IL and the Aquinas Institute of Theology, Dubuque IA, political science at the University of Wisconsin and canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University , at the Catholic University of America , at the university of Ottawa and at St. Paul's University in Ottawa.

From 1981 to 1986 Doyle worked at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, DC

Since 1986 he has worked in various places in the military chaplaincy of the US armed forces.
