Thomas E. Scanlon

Thomas Edward Scanlon (born September 18, 1896 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  August 9, 1955 there ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1945 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Scanlon attended his homeland public schools, Forbes School and Duquesne University , also in Pittsburgh. Between 1914 and 1936 he worked in the press business for the newspapers in Pittsburgh. Between September 1918 and May 1919 he served during the final stages of World War I in the US Army . From 1920 to 1940 he was also a delegate to the Pittsburgh Central Labor Union . Between 1936 and 1941 he was a member of a tax committee in Allegheny County .

Politically, Scanlon was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1940 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Robert J. Corbett on January 3, 1941 . After a re-election in the 16th district of his state, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1945 . These were shaped by the events of the Second World War .

In 1944, Scanlon was not re-elected. He died on August 9, 1955 in his hometown of Pittsburgh.
