Samuel A. Weiss (1945)

Samuel Arthur Weiss (born April 15, 1902 in Krotowocz, Poland , †  February 1, 1977 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was a Polish- American politician . Between 1941 and 1946 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1903, Samuel Weiss and his parents came to Glassport , Pennsylvania from their Polish homeland . He attended the public schools in his new home. In 1925 he graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After completing a law degree at the local School of Law and his admission to the bar in 1927, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. In the meantime he was also director of the local Roselia Maternity Hospital . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1935 and 1939 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania .

In the 1940 congressional election , Weiss was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 31st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican John McDowell on January 3, 1941 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on January 7, 1946 . Until 1943 he represented the 31st, from 1943 to 1945 the 30th and then the 33rd district of his state. His time as a congressman was largely shaped by the events of World War II .

Weiss resigned from his seat in Parliament after being elected a judge on the Allegheny County Court of Appeals . He held this office until 1967. In 1968 he was President of the Judicial Administration of his state ( Pennsylvania State Judicial Administration ). Samuel Weiss died on February 1, 1977 in Pittsburgh, where he was also buried.
