Frank Buchanan (politician, 1902)

Frank Buchanan (born December 1, 1902 in McKeesport , Pennsylvania , †  April 27, 1951 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1946 and 1951 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frank Buchanan attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Pittsburgh until 1925 . Between 1924 and 1928 and again from 1931 to 1942 he taught in Homestead and McKeesport as a teacher. In between he was a car dealer from 1928 to 1931. At the same time he worked as an economic advisor from 1928 to 1946. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . From 1942 to 1946 he was mayor of McKeesport.

After the resignation of MP Samuel A. Weiss , Buchanan was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the 33rd seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on May 21, 1946. After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on April 27, 1951 . This time was shaped by the events of the Cold War . From 1949 to 1951, Buchanan was chairman of the Select Committee on Lobbying Activities .

After his death, his wife Vera was elected as his successor in Congress in a special election.
