Joseph McLaughlin

Joseph McLaughlin (born June 9, 1867 in County Donegal , Ireland , †  November 21, 1926 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1919 and again from 1921 to 1923 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph McLaughlin grew up in his Irish homeland and came to Philadelphia in 1889. He worked as a mechanic at Baldwin Locomotive Works . There he made it to the head of department. He was also active in various other economic areas. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1916 congressional election , McLaughlin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then state-wide 33rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Daniel F. Lafean on March 4, 1917 . Since he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party in 1918, he was initially only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1919 . This was shaped by the events of the First World War .

In the elections of 1920 McLaughlin was re-elected to Congress in the state-wide 33rd district, where he replaced Mahlon Morris Garland on March 4, 1921 . Until March 3, 1923 he was able to spend another term in the US House of Representatives. In 1922 he renounced another candidacy. After serving in Congress, Joseph McLaughlin retired. He died in Philadelphia on November 21, 1926.
