Thomas Fowler (inventor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Fowler (* 1777 in North Devon ; † March 31, 1843 ) was an inventor and mathematician from Devon in England .

In 1828 he received a patent for a forerunner of today's central heating system , which was successfully installed the following year.

By 1830 he became manager of a bank and treasurer of the Torrington Poor Law Union . To make his work easier, he invented a wooden calculating machine in 1840 whose function is based on a ternary code. Even if little is known about this machine, contemporary witnesses have confirmed its functionality. In 2000 the machine was reconstructed - an original was not preserved.
