Thomas Frieberth
Thomas Frieberth OPraem (born May 13, 1731 in Wullersdorf , † October 2, 1788 in Geras ) was an Austrian composer.
Life
The composer, baptized Anton Jakob, was born in Wullersdorf as the son of the schoolmaster. He came from a musical family, his older brother Johann Joseph was Kapellmeister at the Passauer Bischofshof, his younger brother Franz Karl a successful singer and composer.
Frieberth chose a spiritual career and entered the Premonstratensian Monastery of Geras in 1750 , where he was a student of the composer František Ignác Tůma . Two years later he made his profession and took the religious name Thomas. In 1757 he was ordained a priest. In addition to his compositional activity, he also worked as a chaplain in Blumau around 1780. He died in Geras at the age of 57 as a result of a serious fall. His work includes church compositions.
