Thomas Fritsch (publisher)

Thomas Fritsch (* 1666 ; † December 10, 1726 ), son of Johann Friedrich Fritsch , was one of the most important publishing booksellers of the early 18th century. His son was the Saxon statesman Thomas Freiherr von Fritsch (1700–1775).

Life

Fritsch's father died in 1680, making Johann Friedrich Gleditsch his stepfather, he ran the father's business until the handover in 1693.

From 1697 onwards, Fritsch published the anthology of poetry published by Benjamin Neukirch , which had become famous under the name Neukirch'sche Sammlung , and which was to pave the way for the young generation of authors in the gallant style of poetry. In 1699 Fritsch brought Gottfried Arnold's spectacular church and heretic history onto the market. In 1709 Fritsch published the General Historical Lexicon in 5 volumes , the German and expanded edition of the first large historical lexicon by Moreri , originally published in one volume , which was first published in 1674, and in 1721 Jablonski's General Lexicon of the Arts and Sciences .
