Thomas Hickersberger (born August 21, 1973 in Offenbach am Main , Germany ) is a former Austrian soccer player and current coach .
Career
Josef Hickersberger's son was born in the German city of Offenbach , as his father was active at Kickers Offenbach at the time .
Thomas Hickersberger played his first championship games for First Vienna FC . He later moved to Vorwärts Steyr , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1998. A year later he decided to move to SW Bregenz . After a year at SW Bregenz and another year at Admira Wacker Mödling , he finally landed at SV Austria Salzburg in January 2002 . There he was called up during his six-month commitment to the national team, where he came on on March 27, 2002 in the 2-0 win over Slovakia in the closing stages for Ivica Vastić .
The defender then moved to the Regionalliga Ost , where he looked after the Vienna sports club as a playing assistant coach . In the summer of 2006, the father of three returned to Vienna . This was also playing in the Regionalliga Ost at the time. After the official end of his playing career, he was able to work there as an assistant coach from summer 2007 and until June 2010 (promotion to the first division in June 2009).
From July 2010 he worked for the Trenkwalder Admira football academy. There he was head coach of the U16 team for one season.
From June 1, 2011, Thomas Hickersberger was part of the SK Rapid Vienna coaching staff . After the departure of Peter Schöttel , Hickersberger continued to function as assistant trainer under Zoran Barisic , who was appointed on April 17, 2013, and remained in this position during the era of Mike Büskens .
Thomas Hickersberger has been assistant trainer at SCR Altach under Klaus Schmidt since summer 2017 .
