Thomas "Tom" Hikel (born January 22, 1973 ) is a former German indoor and beach volleyball player .

Career

Tom Hikel started playing indoor volleyball in 1985 in his home town of Eberbach and switched to the Frankfurt-Hoechst volleyball boarding school in 1989. During this time he also belonged to the German youth and junior national team, with which he reached 6th place as captain at the Junior European Championships as well as winning the Junior World Championship qualification. He then moved to the Bundesliga for Moerser SC , and he also played for VC Bottrop 90 and Bayer Wuppertal , before focusing exclusively on his beach volleyball career from 2001 onwards.
Thomas Hikel has been playing beach volleyball very successfully since 1994 . From 1995 to 1998 Markus Richter was his partner, with whom he won several DVV Cups and the Lower Saxony championship in 1998. From 1999 to 2003 Tom Hikel played with Marvin Polte , with whom he became German champion in 2002 in addition to two West German and three Lower Saxony championship titles . Frank Fischer has been his partner since 2005, but for health and family reasons they only play at a few tournaments. Both became German beach volleyball champions together in 2011 for seniors over 35 and defended this title in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Tom Hikel has been in possession of the A coaching license since 2007. Since 2001 he has been running beach volleyball camps at various locations abroad for the tour operator Aldiana . From 2006 to 2008 he also looked after the national beach volleyball team Reckermann / Urbatzka.

Private

Tom Hikel is a business graduate and lives in Duisburg . He is married and has two children.
