Thomas Insuk Hong (born July 2, 1997 in Seoul ) is an American short tracker .

Career

Hong, who in Seoul was born and at the age of four with his family to the United States to Maryland moved and grew up there, went international for the first time at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 in Innsbruck in appearance. There he was eighth over 1000 m and fourth over 500 m and with the relay. At the Junior World Championships 2014 in Erzurum he achieved eighth place with the relay and seventh place in the all-around event and at the Junior World Championships 2015 in Osaka he took 17th place in the all- around event and 11th place with the relay. He made his World Cup debut in October 2015 in Montreal . He finished 20th over 500 m and 15th over 1000 m. In December 2016 he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup in Gangneung with third place with the relay. The following month he won the bronze medal with the relay at the Junior World Championships in Innsbruck. At the 2017 World Championships in Rotterdam , he finished seventh with the relay. In the 2017/18 season he won his first World Cup victory with the relay in Shanghai and took third place with the relay in Seoul. At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he ran in 23rd place over 500 m and in fifth place with the relay. At the 2018 World Championships in Montreal, he finished sixth in the relay and finished 28th in the all- around at the 2019 World Championships in Sofia . In January 2020, he won the 1500 m at the Four Continents Championships in Montreal in 2020 and the bronze medal with the relay.
