Thomas Joseph Tobin

Thomas Joseph Tobin (born April 1, 1948 in Pittsburgh ) is an American clergyman and bishop of Providence .

Life

Thomas Joseph Tobin was ordained a priest on July 21, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II named him auxiliary bishop in Pittsburgh and titular bishop of Novica on November 3, 1992 . The Bishop of Pittsburgh , Donald William Wuerl , donated him episcopal ordination on December 27 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Anthony Gerard Bosco , Bishop of Greensburg , and Nicholas Carmen Dattilo , Bishop of Harrisburg .

He was named bishop of Youngstown on December 5, 1995, and was installed in office on February 2 of the next year. He was named bishop of Providence on March 31, 2005 and inducted into the office on May 31 of that year.

In 2019, he hit the headlines with statements that were interpreted as homophobic.
