Thomas Keßler (clergyman)

Thomas Keßler (born August 9, 1955 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and vicar general of the diocese of Würzburg .

After graduating from high school, Thomas Keßler studied theology in Würzburg and Innsbruck and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Würzburg from Bishop Paul Werner Scheele on February 25, 1984 .

After years of chaplaincy, Keßler became pastor in the Bamberg district in 1987 , where he headed the parish community of Baunach, Lauter, Mürsbach and Gereuth until 2004 . From 2004 he was pastor in Bad Kissingen , where from 2009 he headed the parish community Jesus - Source of Life . Since 2005 he has also been dean of the dean's office in Bad Kissingen.

In addition to pastoral care, he was President of the Catholic Workers' Movement and has been active in emergency pastoral care since 1995 . Since 1996 he has been in charge of emergency pastoral care and since 2000 he has been responsible for fire brigade pastoral care in the diocese of Würzburg.

On January 29, 2015, Bishop Friedhelm Hofmann announced his appointment as Vicar General of the Diocese of Würzburg and thus the successor to the late Karl Hillenbrand . He took over the official business in mid-April. After Friedhelm Hofmann's resignation, diocesan administrator Ulrich Boom appointed Keßler as his permanent representative for the duration of the vacancy. As part of Franz Jung's episcopal ordination on June 10, 2018, Keßler was reappointed as Vicar General.
