Thomas Klie (lawyer)

Thomas Klie (* 1955 in Hamburg ) is a German legal scholar . His main research interests are in social gerontology and care, civil society, and legal factual research. He is considered an important social expert in Germany.

Thomas Klie studied Protestant theology, sociology and law at the University of Hamburg . In 1981 he passed the first state examination, 1987 the second, and in 1988 he received his doctorate at the University of Hamburg. In 2010 he received his habilitation at the University of Klagenfurt , Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Further Education with a venia docendi for the subject gerontology.

Since 1988 he has been professor of law and administrative sciences at the Evangelical University of Freiburg , where he heads the AGP Social Research Institute and the Center of Excellence for Civil Society Engagement with a branch in Berlin.

From 1992 to 2013 he was the data protection officer of the Evangelical Church in Baden , and since 2015 he has been the data protection officer of the Diakonisches Werk Baden. Since 1999 he has also worked as a lawyer in Freiburg and Berlin in the law firm for social enterprises (KASU).

Since 1994, together with Axel Bauer and Kay Lütgens, he has been the publisher of the Heidelberg Commentary on Care and Accommodation Law (HK BUR), published as a loose-leaf work by CF Müller Verlag . He was editor of the LPK SGB XI up to the 5th edition. He is also the author of numerous specialist books and magazine articles.
