Thomas Koch (entrepreneur)

Thomas Koch (born February 4, 1952 ) is a German entrepreneur and blogger . He is also known by the nickname Mr. Media .

Life

Koch began his career in the early 1970s and worked as a media planner in various advertising agencies . First he worked as a junior planner at Gramm & Gray in Düsseldorf. After four years he moved to the Eggert agency, where he was promoted to deputy media manager shortly afterwards. This was followed by activities as head of media at GGK in Düsseldorf, where he founded GGK Media and rose to become managing director, and in the same role at Ted Bates in Frankfurt am Main .

After a brief activity at Ernst & Partner, he switched to self-employment and founded his media agency Thomas Koch Media (TKM) in Düsseldorf in 1987 . In 2001, his company managed media billings worth EUR 500 million, making it one of the largest independent media agencies in Germany. At the end of 2001 his agency merged with Starcom to form the network agency TKM Starcom. In 2007 he left the company, but remained non-executive chairman for a few months.

In 2008 he moved to the board of the Düsseldorf media agency Crossmedia. In the same year he became the editor of the communications magazine Clap . In 2010 he founded the innovation agency Why does the foot bob? as a “creative thinking partner” for companies. With Klaas Glenewinkel, Koch founded Plural Mediaservices in Berlin , with which non-governmental media are supported in crisis areas. He runs the consulting company tk: one and is a regular columnist in Wirtschaftswoche and the industry magazine Werben & Sell .

Koch has three children.
