Jürgen vom Scheidt (writer)

Jürgen vom Scheidt (born February 7, 1940 in Leipzig ) is a German writer , psychologist and teacher of creative writing .

Life

Vom Scheidt, born in Leipzig in 1940, studied psychology and received his doctorate in 1975 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. His dissertation The Wrong Path to Self - Studies on Drug Careers was published in 1976. From 1958 he wrote a number of science fiction novels and short stories and was the editor of several science fiction anthologies, including the multiple collections The Monster in the Park (1970 ) and Liebe 2002 (1971), a collection of erotic science fiction stories published under the pseudonym Thomas Landfinder.

In addition to working on drug addiction , dreams and giftedness , vom Scheidt has made a name for himself above all as a teacher for creative writing. Alongside Lutz von Werder , vom Scheidt is one of the protagonists of the German writing movement. Since 1979, vom Scheidt and his wife Ruth Zenhäusern (1946–2016) headed the Munich writing workshop . His approach is characterized by the combination of psychological-therapeutic approaches with the methods of creative writing.

Together with Ruth Zenhäusern, von Scheidt founded the Institute for Applied Creativity Psychology (IAK) in Munich in 1996 . With HyperWriting, both developed a form of creative writing that attempts to combine literary, book market-oriented writing with writing as a self-awareness and psychotherapeutic tool. Starting point of the method is the reduction of writer's block ( writer's block ) and general creativity blockades and the development of brownfield talents to gifted learners.

Vom Scheidt claims to have invented the term deceleration in 1979 .

From 1996 to 2008 he was an accompanying lecturer at the Celle School .
