II writing movement

Werder is considered to be one of the leading figures in the creative writing movement , which has been trying to get people to write throughout Germany through writing workshops and work groups since the 1970s. Werder himself mainly examined the theoretical aspects of writing and teaching to write. This also includes the study of writing methods as therapeutic and self-therapeutic means.

Werder has set important impulses in the context of university didactics: Although writing is one of the basic skills in all courses, practical instructions for writing scientific papers have long been neglected in Germany. It is only in the last few years that preparatory seminars on the creative writing of academic papers have been held at universities .

In 1982 Werder founded one of the first institutes for creative writing in Germany. Today it is associated with the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences.

Many of his many books on creative writing have gained great influence in the writing movement.
