Thomas Lau (historian)

Thomas Lau (born October 3, 1967 in Itzehoe ) is a German historian .

Thomas Lau studied history and public law at the Universities of Freiburg i. Br. , Basel and Dublin . In 1994 the Magister in Freiburg i. Br., 1997 he obtained his doctorate with a scholarship from the state graduate support and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation with the work Civil Unrest and Civil Trials in the Imperial Cities of Schwäbisch Hall and Mulhouse in the early modern period . From 1999 to 2000 he received a scholarship from the Holderbank Foundation for the promotion of young scientists. From 2000 to 2003 Lau was National Fund Assistant at the Chair for General and Swiss History of Modern Times in Friborg. Since 2003 he has been a doctoral assistant at the Chair for General and Swiss Modern History in Friborg. In 2005 his habilitation took place with the thesis stepbrothers. Nation and confession in Switzerland and Europe 1646–1712 . Lau has been teaching modern history as a private lecturer at the University of Freiburg since 2005 .

His research interests are the history of nationalism, sodomite research , and the social and constitutional history of the Old Kingdom .
