Thomas Malsch

Ernst Thomas Malsch (born October 24, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German sociologist . His main focus is the sociology of technology .

Life

Thomas Malsch was born in Hamburg in 1946 as the second child of Pastor Carl Malsch (1916–2001) and his wife Elisabeth, b. Crusius (1918-2010) born. From 1957 to 1960 he attended Ernst-Schlee-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Groß Flottbek , from 1960 to 1962 St. George's School in East Jerusalem and then the German Evangelical High School in Cairo . From 1966 he studied sociology at the Free University of Berlin , where he worked as a research assistant after graduating in 1972. In 1975 he was promoted to Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

From 1982 he worked at the Social Research Center in Berlin and completed his habilitation in 1985 at the FU. In 1989 he followed a call to the chair for technology and society at the University of Dortmund . In 1996 he moved to the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg as professor and head of the Institute for Technology and Society . From 1999 until his retirement in 2012, he was head of the DFG -Schwerpunktprogramms Sozionik .

Malsch is a descendant of Balthasar Crusius .
