Thomas Patterson

Thomas Patterson (born October 1, 1764 in Little Britain , Lancaster County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  November 16, 1841 in Pattersons Mills , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1825 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Patterson was a half-brother of Congressman John Patterson (1771-1848) from Ohio . In 1778 he moved with his parents to Pattersons Mills in Washington County . He attended the public schools in his respective homeland. Then he worked in agriculture and as a grain miller. During the British-American War of 1812 he was a Brigadier General in the State Militia. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the 1820s he joined the movement around the future President Andrew Jackson .

In the congressional election of 1816 Patterson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Aaron Lyle on March 4, 1817 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1825 . In 1824 he renounced another candidacy. After serving in the US House of Representatives, Thomas Patterson resumed his previous activities. He died on November 16, 1841 near Patterson's Mills.
